The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper and rescued two minors abducted in Tilden Fulani, located in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to Wakil, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when a resident, Aliyu Hamisu, reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters that his children — 12-year-old Halima Hamisu and 6-year-old Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu — had been kidnapped by an unknown person while waiting for their school bus along the main road in Tilden town.

“Upon receiving the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately visited the scene and commenced a thorough investigation,” Wakil stated.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that an eyewitness saw a man on a tricycle pick up the children. Later, the kidnapper contacted the victims’ family and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million using a foreign number to avoid being traced.

Wakil said the suspect later reduced the ransom to ₦1.2 million, which was to be delivered at Farmers Motors Junction in Bauchi.

He added, “Based on credible intelligence, detectives strategically surrounded the area, leading to the arrest of the suspect while he attempted to collect the ransom.”

Further investigation led operatives to Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State, where the two children were rescued unhurt and reunited with their parents.

The main suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, was later found to be a relative of the victims. He confessed to the crime, citing a long-standing family dispute with his uncle as his motive.

Police Tackle Motorcycle Theft in Bauchi

In another operation, the Command disclosed that intelligence reports received on October 21, 2025, showed an increase in motorcycle theft across the state.

To curb the trend, the police, working with local security groups, launched a targeted operation.

During the patrol, officers arrested Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu of the Gwallaga area, who was caught with a white Jincheng motorcycle valued at ₦100,000, allegedly stolen from Mahmud Aliyu of Kobi Street, Bauchi. The suspect confessed to the crime, and investigation is ongoing.

Similarly, on October 22, 2025, one Hafiz Yaro Ahmed of Nasarawa Jahun Street reported that his son’s black Haojue ladies’ motorcycle, worth ₦250,000, was stolen where it was parked in front of a bank along Murtala Muhammad Way, Bauchi.

Following the report, detectives arrested Abdulrahman Ibrahim of the Gwallaga area, who was found with the stolen motorcycle. He admitted stealing it with plans to dismantle and sell it as scrap.

SP Wakil confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will face prosecution after due process.
