The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has announced that any commissioner excluded from the State Executive Council meeting for refusing to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’ — as instructed by Governor Monday Okpebholo — will face suspension from the party.

Governor Okpebholo had earlier mandated that all commissioners must wear the cap, which is branded in support of President Bola Tinubu, during Executive Council meetings.

Speaking in a recent television interview, Tenebe described noncompliance with the directive as “an act of indiscipline and insubordination.” He warned that the APC would not tolerate disloyalty from any of its members.

He stated, “If you disobey the governor’s instruction, you will be suspended. Refusing to wear the cap shows indiscipline and a lack of respect for leadership.”

Tenebe emphasized that the directive was part of efforts to demonstrate unity and loyalty to President Tinubu. “We have pledged to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the next election. Every member of the party has a role to play. If you were appointed by the APC, you must show allegiance to the President. Wearing the cap is a symbol of that loyalty,” he said.

He further added that those protesting against the governor’s order were not true party members, stressing that in Edo APC, “No Asiwaju cap, no Exco.”

On October 14, during the swearing-in of newly confirmed commissioners and the inauguration of various boards and commissions, Governor Okpebholo directed all cabinet members to publicly display their loyalty to President Tinubu through branded attire.

He credited the President’s support as a major factor behind his electoral success, warning that any commissioner who disregards the dress code would be barred from future council meetings.
