Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has cautioned that Nigerians would defend the country if the United States attempts a military intervention. His comments followed a statement attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump, directing America’s War Department to prepare for potential action against Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christians.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, Fani-Kayode condemned Trump’s remarks, calling them provocative and accusing him of attempting to intimidate Nigeria.

He recounted that a friend expressed concern about Trump’s comments. According to Fani-Kayode, his reply to her was that Nigerians would not flee if confronted by foreign forces, insisting the country would stay united and resist.

He criticised some Nigerians for what he described as weakness and passiveness toward foreign pressure, stressing that such a moment would test the nation’s courage and leadership.

Fani-Kayode also accused Trump of double standards, saying he ignored alleged atrocities in places like Sudan while portraying Nigeria negatively. He argued that the former U.S. leader was trying to paint Nigerians as persecutors of Christians in order to justify foreign hostility.

According to him, Trump’s stance was influenced by his alliance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he accused of committing serious human-rights violations.

Trump, in his own message shared on Truth Social, warned that the U.S. could cut off aid to Nigeria and take military steps if the government failed to stop the killing of Christians. He said American forces would strike quickly if intervention became necessary, claiming it would be done to stop terrorist violence.
