The family of the late singer Mohbad has prohibited his widow, Wunmi Adebanjo, from using the Aloba surname until a DNA test confirms the paternity of their son, Liam.
This decision comes amid an ongoing dispute over the child’s paternity, which resurfaced after Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023. The singer died after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse, prompting widespread public concern. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy, but in May 2025, pathologists reported that the exact cause of death could not be determined, leaving the investigation unresolved.
In a statement issued by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, alongside Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family insisted that Wunmi was not legally married to the late artiste. They explained that no statutory or traditional marriage was performed, noting that the essential Yoruba bridal rites, including the payment of bride price, were never completed.
The family appointed Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative regarding the DNA case and the management of Mohbad’s estate. They added that lawyer Wahab Shittu would continue engaging with investigative bodies handling the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
According to the statement, Wunmi and her son will be fully included in the administration of Mohbad’s estate once the DNA test confirms Liam’s biological relationship to the singer.
