The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that ten farmers were abducted by suspected bandits in the Shiroro Local Government Area on Wednesday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the attackers invaded Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa communities at night and took several residents away.
According to him, the report received by the police indicated that armed men stormed the two villages around 8 p.m. and kidnapped about ten people.
He added that police operatives have begun efforts to rescue the victims and restore calm in the affected communities.
This incident follows a recent mass abduction at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Papiri village, Agwara Local Government Area, where more than 300 students and 12 teachers were taken by bandits. The Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger State later announced that 50 of the abducted pupils had escaped and reunited with their families.
