The Jigawa State Police Command has stopped two separate robbery operations in Hadejia and Sule-Tankarkar, resulting in the death of one suspect and the arrest of three others.
Police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam confirmed the incidents in a statement issued in Dutse. He noted that the outcomes reflect the command’s continuous efforts to curb crime and maintain public safety.
The first attack happened around 3:35 a.m. on Thursday when about eight armed men invaded Fruska Table Water Company in Hadejia. Officers from the Hadejia Division responded quickly and engaged the robbers in a gunfight.
During the exchange, one suspect was shot and later died at Hadejia General Hospital. The remaining robbers escaped. Police recovered bows and arrows, sticks, and cutlasses from the scene, and a manhunt for the seven fleeing suspects is ongoing.
A second robbery attempt occurred about 20 minutes earlier in Togai village under the Sule-Tankarkar Division. Three armed men broke into the home of Shamsu Muhd and stole two new motorcycles.
Police pursued the suspects and apprehended one after he ran into a Primary Health Centre, where a mob attacked him before officers intervened. A locally made firearm and the stolen motorcycles were recovered. The other two suspects escaped, and investigations are underway to arrest them.
SP Adam said the arrested suspect will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
He also urged residents to remain alert and provide useful information to support the command’s fight against crime.
