A medical doctor has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services for allegedly transporting medical supplies from Sokoto State to suspected kidnapping groups operating in Kwara State.

According to a statement released by the Kwara State Government, the suspect was intercepted in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area, after intelligence linked him to a syndicate responsible for delivering medicines to armed gangs in the region.

The statement explained that security operatives acted on reports indicating that kidnap gangs were increasingly seeking medical treatment—especially for gunshot wounds sustained during clashes with security forces.

Security sources confirmed that the arrest is part of an intensified operation aimed at disrupting the logistics networks that support kidnapping activities in the North-Central zone. They noted that criminal groups have been under pressure due to recent security operations, prompting them to urgently seek medical care for injured members.

Kwara State, once regarded as one of the more stable states in the region, has recently experienced a rise in violent incidents across areas such as Kaiama, Baruten, Ekiti, and parts of Moro LGAs. Border communities have become particularly vulnerable due to their proximity to thick forest areas used as hideouts by kidnapping gangs.

Investigations into the syndicate and its wider network are ongoing.
