The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two young men believed to be members of a cult group planning a violent confrontation in the Enugwu Ukwu area of Njikoka Local Government.

The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Oluebube Ifediorah and 25-year-old Offorbuike Emmanuel, were arrested on Thursday by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad following intelligence reports about a planned cult-related attack.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers recovered a locally-made double-barrel shotgun and two live cartridges from the suspects during the operation.

Ikenga explained that detectives acted swiftly after receiving information about a gathering of suspected cult members in the early hours of December 4, 2025. When officers arrived at the scene, several members of the group fled into the surrounding bushes, but the two suspects were arrested.

He added that the recovered firearm was found inside a red bag carried by one of the suspects. Efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the group who escaped.

The police spokesperson noted that the operation is part of the command’s broader campaign to stamp out cultism and related violence across the state. He urged residents to continue providing reliable information to support security efforts.

This incident follows a recent operation in which seven suspected cultists were arrested during an initiation ritual in a forested area in Abagana, also in Njikoka LGA.
