Two police inspectors, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, stationed at the Zone 2 Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, faced dismissal following allegations of armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty, as stated by the zone. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Mohammed Ali, mandated their dismissal after a thorough Orderly Room trial.Inspectors Adetoye (Force number 279495) and Stephen (Force number 223521), in collaboration with two members of a vigilante group, Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi, as well as a driver identified as Charles John, reportedly raided a residence in Obada-Oko community in Ogun State at around 10 pm on November 23, 2023. Armed with Submachine SMG rifles and live ammunition, they allegedly conducted an unauthorized search of the apartment belonging to Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday. During the raid, they purportedly stole five iPhones, one Samsung smartphone, one Tecno smartphone, and two laptop computers. The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, detailed that the police officers at Ifo Division apprehended the suspects after receiving information about the incident and the vehicle used, except for ASP Ajayi Victor, the leader of the operation, who is currently evading arrest. The AIG ordered the dismissed officers to face legal charges alongside the civilians involved. He stressed the importance of professionalism among the force members, warning of accountability for any misconduct. Additionally, the current management of the Nigeria Police Force, under IGP Kayode Egbetokun, pledged zero tolerance for unprofessional and corrupt practices. Ayuba urged the public to report any unprofessional behavior of officers, emphasizing the police force’s commitment to safeguarding all citizens.
