Isaac Aloma, famously known as ZicSaloma, a prominent figure in the realm of skit-making, recently unveiled his past life as a lecturer at Kaduna Polytechnic. In a revealing podcast interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, Aloma disclosed his decision to abandon his lecturing role due to the meager salary he received, redirecting his focus towards skit making.Throughout the conversation, Aloma emphasized his unwavering determination to achieve success. He highlighted his pursuit of higher education, revealing that he commenced his master’s program while fulfilling his national youth service obligations. Notably, he served at Kadpoly and transitioned into a permanent lecturing position following the completion of his youth service.Reflecting on his earlier days, the skit maker reminisced about balancing his lecturing duties while simultaneously participating in singing competitions, including an edition of The Voice Nigeria.Aloma admitted that his entry into skit-making was not a premeditated move. He recalled the initial struggle, stating that for three years, he persisted in creating content without significant traction. Initially sharing his skits on Facebook, he found encouragement from his friends, which spurred him on to continue. Despite a stagnant fan base, those who appreciated his content continued to support him. However, a turning point emerged during the lockdown period when he ventured onto TikTok. It was then that his content began to gain substantial organic traction.Making a pivotal decision, Aloma recounted informing his boss about his intention to quit lecturing, a move met with skepticism. He humorously recalled the response, “Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” Yet, undeterred, he made the bold choice to leave the lecturing profession, driven by the stark reality of the lecturer’s salary compared to his aspirations.Aloma concluded by revealing that at the time of his departure from lecturing, he hadn’t yet achieved the level of success he enjoys today, marking his leap of faith into the uncertain yet ultimately rewarding world of skit-making.
