The Federal Government has intervened to end the disagreement between Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

In a statement issued early Wednesday, Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, confirmed that after two days of talks, both parties reached a settlement.

Key points from the resolution include:

  • The Minister reaffirmed that Nigerian workers have the legal right to join unions, and this right must be upheld.
  • The Dangote Group agreed to redeploy the recently disengaged staff to other subsidiaries within the company without any salary reduction.
  • It was also agreed that no employee will face punishment for their role in the conflict.
  • PENGASSAN pledged to begin the process of suspending its strike action.
  • Both sides committed to implementing the agreement sincerely and in good faith.

Present at the negotiations were the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; DSS Director-General, Adeola Ajayi; NIA Director-General, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed; representatives of the Petroleum Ministry, NMDPRA, NUPRC, and officials of NNPCL.

The agreement is expected to restore peace in the sector and ensure smooth operations at the refinery.
