Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has described the promotion and decoration of 102 officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority as a reflection of quality service and the agency’s institutional development.
Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Olabode Ladipo, spoke on Thursday at the decoration ceremony held at the Local Government Staff Training Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The governor congratulated the newly promoted officers and their families, saying the elevations demonstrated their commitment and suitability for greater responsibilities.
He noted that the promotions further confirmed the integration of OYRTMA into the core civil service structure of the state, adding that the affected officers had advanced to Grade Levels 13, 12, 10 and nine.
Makinde commended the agency’s management for its reforms and urged the promoted officers to remain committed to reducing road crashes and improving road safety across Oyo State.
The Head of Service, Adenike Fashina, represented by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Akinyinka Adeyemi, also congratulated the officers and encouraged them to maintain their dedication to public service.
Earlier, OYRTMA Executive Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (retd.), thanked Makinde for approving the promotions and supporting staff welfare.
Adesagba said the promotions comprised 25 officers elevated from Principal Road Traffic Officer to Assistant Chief Road Traffic Officer; 11 from Principal Road Traffic Superintendent II to Principal Road Traffic Superintendent I; 16 from Road Traffic Superintendent to Principal Road Traffic Superintendent II; and 50 from Road Traffic Officer II to Road Traffic Officer I.
He also listed reforms introduced under his leadership since October 2023, including the creation of Special Marshals and Youth Volunteers, establishment of the Road Traffic Offences Tribunal, expansion of operational bases, recruitment and training of 500 officers, and stronger collaboration with security and traffic management agencies.
Adesagba urged the newly promoted officers to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and to intensify efforts toward ensuring smoother traffic flow, reducing road crashes and promoting safer road use.
