Fintech company OPay has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to investigate a false social media report claiming that it would shut down its operations in Nigeria.
OPay’s Chief Legal Counsel, Akinfolabi Rokosu, said the company was cooperating with the ongoing investigation and had provided evidence to help identify those behind the rumour.
He said OPay would take legal action against individuals responsible for creating and spreading the false information.
Meanwhile, the company’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer, Dotun Adekunle, reassured customers that OPay remained fully operational and had no plans to leave the Nigerian market.
He urged customers to verify information through OPay’s official communication channels before making financial decisions based on messages shared online.
The clarification followed a viral notice claiming that OPay would suspend its Nigerian operations from September 1, 2026, and advising customers to withdraw their funds.
OPay previously dismissed the notice as false and has continued to assure customers that its services remain available.
