Nigerians have called on Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to investigate and, if warranted, arrest Senator Fadahunsi of Osun East Senatorial District over a controversial video allegedly showing him threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The video, which circulated on social media, reportedly showed the All Progressives Congress lawmaker addressing supporters during a protest over alleged attacks on APC members in Ilesa.
In the footage, Fadahunsi was allegedly heard urging APC supporters to confront Accord Party members and prevent them from voting in the election.
The alleged remarks triggered outrage and raised concerns about the safety of voters and political supporters ahead of the poll.
Former presidential aide and APC chieftain, Babafemi Ojudu, urged the Inspector-General of Police to act, describing the alleged statement as unacceptable in a democratic society.
Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, also called for the senator’s investigation and arrest.
Adeleke said he had raised the matter with the police authorities and described the development as a national security concern requiring urgent attention.
According to the governor, the IGP had confirmed that the police were aware of the video and assured him that action would be taken.
However, Fadahunsi denied making the alleged remarks. Speaking during an interview with TVC News on Tuesday night, he claimed that the viral video was artificially generated.
“The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” the senator said.
The controversy comes just days before the August 15 Osun governorship election, with political parties and stakeholders facing increased pressure to ensure that the poll is conducted peacefully and that voters are allowed to exercise their franchise without intimidation.
