The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks to assess the living conditions of officers and their families and identify areas requiring urgent intervention.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to the statement, the inspection was conducted to give the IGP a first-hand assessment of accommodation and other welfare facilities across the barracks.
During the exercise, Disu interacted with police personnel and residents while assessing the condition of residential buildings and supporting infrastructure.
The findings from the inspection are expected to guide the Nigeria Police Force in prioritising rehabilitation and other welfare projects, particularly in locations where poor facilities may affect the wellbeing and morale of personnel.
Disu stressed that police officers who risk their lives to protect citizens deserved decent and conducive living conditions.
He said personnel welfare remained an important part of efforts to reform and professionalise the police force.
The IGP assured officers that identified welfare challenges would receive appropriate attention, while emphasising the need for practical solutions based on the conditions observed during the inspection.
The police said improving accommodation and the general living environment of officers and their families would boost morale and contribute to more effective policing and service delivery.
