The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a fake statement circulating on social media claiming that Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had ordered the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited constables.
The Force, in a disclaimer issued on Friday, said the document was neither produced nor authorised by any department of the Nigeria Police Force, despite carrying the police letterhead and the name of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
The forged statement, which circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms, claimed that the recruits would begin training under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development.
It also directed purported successful candidates to check the official police recruitment portal from September 14, 2026, for details of their training institutions and resumption dates.
The fake release further attributed comments to the IGP thanking President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
The police urged recruitment candidates and members of the public to disregard the document and rely only on information published through the official recruitment portal and verified NPF communication channels.
The Force added that it had begun efforts to identify those responsible for producing and circulating the fake statement, warning that anyone found culpable would face legal action.
