Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after the singer alleged that soldiers were planning to stop him from entering Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
Davido had claimed on Saturday morning that he was reliably informed that soldiers would prevent him from entering the state to campaign in support of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The singer argued that such a move would violate the right of Nigerians to freedom of movement.
Reacting to the allegation, Ahmad described Davido’s claim as “dramatic”, explaining that security agencies had already announced restrictions on movement across Osun as part of measures to maintain peace during the election.
According to Ahmad, the movement restriction was scheduled to run from midnight until 6pm on Saturday and was a standard security measure during elections.
He argued that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt citizens from complying with lawful security measures introduced to protect the electoral process.
The exchange comes amid heightened security preparations across Osun State, with authorities deploying personnel and restricting movement as residents head to the polls.
