The government led by President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigerians will soon receive insights into the issues plaguing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and their impact on the economy.

In a statement, the Federal Government disclosed that the audit report of the CBN is nearing completion. It emphasized that many of Nigeria’s challenges stem from poor governance within the country’s leadership.

The government commended President Tinubu for his decision to initiate an audit of the Central Bank of Nigeria. In a letter dated July 28, 2023, President Tinubu appointed Jim Obazee, the CEO of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, as the special investigator for the CBN. The investigator’s mandate includes examining the CBN and key Government Business Entities, with direct reporting to the President’s office.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, addressing the press on Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary, asserted that Nigerians would soon have clarity on the issues that have led the country to its present state. He emphasized that most of the challenges faced by Nigeria are rooted in governance issues.

Akume further highlighted President Tinubu’s positive influence on the CBN, which contributed to notable improvements in the capital market. He underscored the importance of the ongoing investigation at the CBN, indicating that its results would be disclosed soon, shedding light on the factors that have brought the country to its current situation.

Regarding the 63rd independence anniversary celebrations on October 1, Akume noted that no world leaders had been invited, aligning with the decision for a low-key celebration due to economic constraints. The theme of the anniversary is “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity & Prosperity.”
