In a pivotal moment for Nigerian politics, the nation awaits the judgment from the Supreme Court, where a fierce battle for the presidency unfolds. The protagonists in this high-stakes drama are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. At the heart of this dispute lies the contested result of the February 25 presidential election, where President Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared the winner.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) have been relentless in their pursuit of overturning Tinubu’s victory. Despite their initial setbacks at the Presidential Election Petitions Court, both parties, backed by their presidential candidates, Atiku (PDP) and Obi (LP), have taken their case to the highest legal authority in the country: the Supreme Court. Monday marked a crucial day in this legal battle, as the Supreme Court heard the arguments presented by all parties involved, setting the stage for the long-awaited judgment to be announced today, Thursday.

The confidence exuded by the contesting parties adds to the tension surrounding this judgment. Bala Ibrahim, the APC Director of Publicity, remains steadfast in his belief that the Supreme Court will uphold Tinubu’s victory. Ibrahim points to the compelling evidence presented in favor of the APC during the hearings, expressing optimism in the integrity of the justices presiding over the case. However, Kehinde Edun, the National Legal Adviser of LP, echoes a similar sentiment on behalf of the LP, expressing confidence in their candidate, Peter Obi. Edun emphasizes that they have introduced fresh evidence during the proceedings at the Court of Appeal, adding a layer of complexity to the case.

The voice of the PDP, articulated through Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, carries a note of caution. Abdullahi urges the Supreme Court to consider the broader implications of their judgment. He calls upon the justices to rise above recent controversial decisions and make a decision that not only serves justice but also upholds the expectations of the nation. This sentiment reflects the collective hope that the Supreme Court’s ruling will be grounded in fairness, justice, and a deep understanding of the profound impact this verdict will have on the future of Nigeria. As the nation holds its breath, the outcome of this judicial battle is poised to shape the country’s political landscape for years to come.
