Tragedy struck along the Ilesa-Ibodi road on Wednesday as a female staff member of the University of Ilesa lost her life in a fatal accident. According to Drivetvnews reports, a truck carrying cashew nuts had an accident, causing the container to fall onto the car the university staff was driving.
The incident, which occurred near the institution’s main gate, prompted immediate action from bystanders who rushed to the scene to assist the victim. An eyewitness disclosed that the university staff, who had just finished work for the day, was on her way home when the accident happened.
A senior staff member of the University of Ilesa, speaking anonymously, lamented, “Our colleague’s vehicle was crushed beneath a container loaded with cashew nuts from the truck. It’s a tragic loss, and she is feared dead.”
The accident resulted in a traffic gridlock on the busy road, hindering rescue operations. In response, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State expressed grief over the incident, urging relevant authorities to investigate the accident’s cause and hold accountable those responsible.
Governor Adeleke emphasized the need to identify the truck owner, determine the accident’s circumstances, and improve search and rescue protocols. He directed the Commissioner for Transportation to conduct a thorough investigation and implement stricter regulations for heavy-duty trucks using narrow roads to prevent future accidents.
