Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has requested that the #EndBadGovernance protesters cease their demonstration. According to Drivetvnews, Sanwo-Olu’s appeal was communicated through the state’s Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, at Ojota Park on the second day of the nationwide protests.
Omotosho urged the protesting Nigerian youths to end their demonstration, stating that the government has acknowledged their demands. He remarked, “We have heard their rights and their say; Governor Sanwo-Olu has listened. It is now time to go home and conclude the protest.”
Additionally, Governor Sanwo-Olu condemned a post made by @Lagospedia on X (formerly Twitter) which called for the Igbo to leave Lagos and the South-West. The post, dated July 27, 2024, urged Lagosians to prepare for a large-scale #IgboMustGo protest from August 20 to 30, 2024, sparking significant controversy on social media.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, issued a statement distancing the governor and the Lagos State Government from the “reckless, divisive, and dangerous rhetoric,” asserting that Lagos is home to all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic background.
Akosile further explained that the governor views the post as an attempt to create division between the Yoruba and other ethnic groups, particularly those who have settled in Lagos permanently. He called on Lagosians to disregard such posts and urged security agencies to investigate the individuals behind the message and hold them accountable.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reassured Lagosians of his commitment to maintaining peace in the state and encouraged them to ignore any similar divisive posts.
