The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that the officers involved in an extortion case have been identified and are currently under interrogation.

The incident involved three members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were allegedly extorted by four police officers in the Surulere area of Lagos. The officers reportedly demanded N1 million from the corps members for failing to present a physical driver’s license.

The incident gained attention when Oluyemi Fasipe, a user on the social media platform X, shared details, revealing that one of the corps members was also forced to transfer Bitcoin worth $842 to the officers.

Hundeyin, speaking on the matter, confirmed that the officers responsible had been identified and were undergoing interrogation. Fasipe later provided an update, stating, “The corrupt officers from the Area C command of the Lagos Police, who extorted over 1 million naira from the corps members, have refunded the money.”

He added that he was eagerly waiting for the outcome of the trial of the officers.

Hundeyin explained that the results of the trial would determine whether the officers were guilty and, if so, they could face dismissal. Fasipe also expressed gratitude towards both Hundeyin and the Lagos State NYSC office for their efforts in ensuring the corps members were refunded.

He further remarked, “I want to thank @BenHundeyin and the Lagos NYSC for their help. I also want to send my regards to my friend in Delta State, @Brightgoldenboy.”
