Renowned Yoruba historian and leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye, has once again voiced his unwavering support for the Yoruba nation’s quest for self-determination, calling on Yoruba people worldwide to unite and take decisive steps toward securing a prosperous future.
Speaking on Sunday, Prof. Akintoye emphasized the need for Yorubaland to shield itself from the growing socio-political and cultural decline plaguing Nigeria. He stressed the urgency of preserving Yoruba heritage and forging a new path toward autonomy and sustainable development.
Drawing inspiration from the achievements of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo—who as Premier led Western Nigeria through a period of rapid advancement in the 1950s—Akintoye expressed optimism that the Yoruba people could surpass past successes within a few short years if guided by determination and divine support.
“With God on our side, we the Yoruba can transform our land into a great nation within five years. This is your responsibility. Be prepared—the new era is near,” he proclaimed.
Prof. Akintoye reaffirmed his commitment to the self-determination movement, asserting that Yorubaland must liberate itself from the harmful structures of the current Nigerian system.
He also appealed to Yoruba youth living abroad to return home and contribute to the development of a nation rooted in their values and cultural identity.
“Come home swiftly and help build a better country—one that stands apart from what Nigeria has become. We must not allow foreign cultural influences to shape our nation,” he urged.
Despite his age, Prof. Akintoye vowed to remain actively involved in the cause, assuring his continued support and dedication to the movement.
“I am your father and I stand ready. Though I am old, my commitment remains strong, and I will support you with God’s strength,” he affirmed.
He concluded with words of encouragement, applauding Yoruba efforts globally and expressing confidence in the movement’s ultimate success.
