Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), has turned down his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

His decision was conveyed in a letter dated July 21, 2025, and made public by Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, on Monday.

In the letter, titled “Declining Appointment as Chairman, Bank of Agriculture,” Muhammed expressed his gratitude for the offer but explained that he was unable to accept due to both personal and professional reasons.

“I deeply appreciate the honour of being considered for such a vital role in the development of Nigeria’s agricultural and economic sectors,” he stated. “However, after thorough reflection and consultation, I have chosen to respectfully decline the appointment.”

He explained that his decision was informed by a combination of factors that would not allow him to devote the attention and commitment the role requires at this time.

“Despite this, I remain supportive of your administration’s efforts and am willing to contribute to national development in other capacities where my expertise may be beneficial,” he added.

Following the announcement, Dele Momodu, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), praised Muhammed’s decision. He posted on Instagram, “Well done, Muhammed, for rejecting a Greek gift.”

Muhammed Babangida was among the individuals recently appointed by President Tinubu just days ago. In response, the ADC criticized the appointment, accusing the presidency of trying to curry favor with Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
