Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, have praised the Nigerian military for its ongoing operations against bandits in the state, particularly in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf applauded the military’s swift response to recent attacks and the coordination of other security agencies. He made the remarks during a visit by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Abubakar Muhammad Wase, at the Government House, Kano.

Maj. Gen. Wase, who visited the state to assess security conditions, recalled his personal connection to the Government House, where his late father, Col. Muhammad Abdullahi Wase, served as Military Sole Administrator in 1994.

“I am here on a familiarisation visit. Since assuming command at 1 Division, I have visited several attack sites to commend our brave troops,” the GOC said.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation for the military’s commitment and commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing dedicated service chiefs. He announced the donation of 10 Hilux vehicles and 60 motorcycles to support the Joint Task Force in affected communities. The governor also reiterated his administration’s readiness to assist in combating banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling across the state.

Senator Barau Jibrin also praised security forces for repelling bandit attacks in Shanono, following intelligence reports that fleeing bandits from neighbouring states had attempted to infiltrate the area.

According to a statement by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Barau lauded the gallantry of the troops and mourned the loss of two soldiers and a vigilante who died in the line of duty. “I deeply mourn our fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the safety of our people,” he said.

He encouraged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to security agencies. Barau further pledged continued support for security operations across Kano North Senatorial District. “We will not allow criminal elements to disrupt the peace in our communities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Wase, during an operational visit to Farin Ruwa and Tsaure Forward Operating Bases, commended the troops for their courage and resilience.

A statement from the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, confirmed that the GOC’s visit followed the November 2 bandit attack that claimed the lives of two soldiers and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force. Wase met with troops to review challenges, offer operational guidance, and assured them of the Chief of Army Staff’s continued support to restore lasting peace.

He also inspected border areas between Kano and Katsina states identified as routes used by bandits and commended the collaboration among security agencies deployed in the region.
