Popular Fuji musician and Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM1, has approached the Ogun State High Court to stop the ongoing process for selecting and installing a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
In the suit filed at the Ijebu-Ode division of the court, Ayinde is seeking an interim injunction restraining Dapo Abiodun and five other respondents from taking any steps toward filling the vacant traditional stool pending the determination of the substantive case.
Also named as defendants are the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Oke Adebanjo; the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr Sunny Kuku; and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi.
The case, numbered HC3/238/2025, is contained in a court document dated December 16, 2025. According to the filing, the musician is asking the court to halt all actions related to the succession process until the matter is fully heard and resolved.
Ayinde had earlier declared interest in the Awujale stool, asserting that he is of royal descent linked to the Jadiara lineage within the larger Fusengbuwa Ruling House. However, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House rejected the claim, maintaining that the Fuji artiste does not belong to the royal family eligible to produce the next Awujale.
In the motion filed before the court, Ayinde stated that his application was brought under relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court Civil Procedure Rules, the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and the inherent powers of the court. He urged the court to grant an interim order to protect his interests and prevent any action that could compromise the subject of the dispute.
As of the time of filing this report, the court has not fixed a date for the hearing of the application.
