Suspected Boko Haram fighters have carried out a deadly assault on Zah and Mubang communities in Yadul, Garaha District of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, killing at least 14 residents and injuring two others.
Residents said the attackers arrived at the villages around 6:16 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, and launched a coordinated attack that targeted both young people and elders. Several food stores, shops, and other properties were also set on fire during the raid.
By Tuesday morning, the affected communities were left counting their losses as families mourned those killed in what locals described as another chapter in a long history of violence in the area. Community members said the attacks have become frequent, with little sign of lasting protection or justice.
“This is not the first time we have been attacked,” a resident said. “It keeps happening year after year, and nothing changes.”
Zah and Mubang join other communities in Yadul, Garaha District—such as Dabna, Kopre, Kultha, and Kinging—that have repeatedly faced similar attacks. Residents said these farming settlements, largely populated by Christian families, have been left vulnerable, forcing many people to live in constant fear or abandon their homes.
The latest incident has renewed anger among locals, who accused the government of failing to safeguard lives and property. Some residents said they now feel like displaced persons within their own communities.
Beyond the loss of lives, the attacks have severely disrupted livelihoods. Farming, the main source of income and food for the area, has been repeatedly affected as insecurity prevents residents from accessing their land. Community members argued that relocating farmers to poorly supported displacement camps does not address the root of the problem.
Local leaders are calling for urgent and decisive security measures, stressing that relief assistance cannot replace effective protection.
“Safety is not negotiable,” one resident said. “The security gaps must be closed, and these attacks must stop.”
As mourning continues, residents of Yadul, Garaha District have appealed to the Nigerian government to take immediate and decisive action to end the violence and restore peace to their communities.
