Bandits have carried out another deadly attack in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing an 85-year-old woman and abducting several residents during a nighttime raid on Kabe Village.

The attack occurred on Tuesday night when armed men reportedly stormed the community around 10 p.m. Eyewitnesses said the assailants moved from house to house, looting food supplies and terrorising villagers. During the chaos, the elderly victim, identified as Amina Adamu, was shot while attempting to flee.

Residents said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and appeared to be searching specifically for food items. Some villagers believe the stolen supplies were intended for captives being held in nearby forest hideouts.

“The gunmen went from one house to another, taking food from people’s homes,” a local source said. “As they were leaving, they shot the old woman and took some villagers with them.”

Kabe Village is located a short distance from Kasuwan Daji, where a similar attack occurred about two weeks earlier. During that incident, bandits reportedly razed the market and killed no fewer than 30 people. Following the earlier violence, the state government ordered the closure of the market to prevent further attacks.

The latest assault came just hours after Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced plans by the state government, in collaboration with federal authorities, to clear armed groups from Kainji National Park and surrounding areas within the emirate.

As of the time of reporting, security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident. The attack has heightened fear among residents and renewed concerns over persistent insecurity in parts of Niger State.
