Suspected terrorists have attacked a community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, abducting six members of a family in the early hours of Tuesday. Madagali is the hometown of the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
The incident occurred in Gare Village, located in Pallam District of the local government area. Confirming the attack, the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said security forces have launched a coordinated operation to rescue the abducted victims.
Nguroje explained that the attackers stormed the village and kidnapped the victims before fleeing with livestock. He noted that the police, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and other security agencies, had deployed additional personnel and operational resources to the area to track down the perpetrators.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered sustained search-and-rescue missions, intensified patrols, and strengthened security across Madagali and surrounding border communities to prevent further attacks.
The police command assured residents that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property throughout the state, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations and operations continue.
The attack occurred as Governor Fintiri began a statewide tour of the 21 local government areas to assess security conditions and other pressing challenges faced by residents.
Adamawa State has recently experienced a surge in violent incidents. In recent weeks, attacks in Hong Local Government Area reportedly left at least 12 people dead and several homes destroyed. Earlier this year, a communal conflict between the Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area also claimed more than 20 lives.
