Fresh fear has spread across Ira, Inaja and Aho communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State after residents reportedly discovered a threatening letter warning of a possible terrorist attack.

The letter, said to have been found on Thursday morning around the Ira market area, caused panic among locals and reportedly prompted security agencies to hold emergency meetings with local government officials.

Sources familiar with the incident said the authors of the letter identified themselves as the “NTA (Nigeria Terrorist Association)” and claimed they had moved from Kaiama Local Government Area to Oyun, with plans to strike the affected communities “anytime soon.”

Residents, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said the threat has heightened tension in the area, especially after the recent deadly attack in Woro community in Kaiama, where over 160 people were reportedly killed by suspected terrorists believed to be linked to Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS), commonly known as Boko Haram.

Parts of the letter reportedly contained disturbing warnings, with the group claiming they had already gathered intelligence on the communities and were prepared to carry out an assault.

The letter also mocked residents’ confidence in their local defenders and spiritual protection, warning them to be ready for an attack at any moment.

Ira, a border community close to Ilemona, sits along a corridor that connects to forest routes often used by criminals and insurgents. Inaja and Aho are located further west along the same axis, making the area increasingly vulnerable to infiltration.

Military sources disclosed that troops stationed at the Nigerian Army Forward Operation Base in Ilemona have intensified patrols in the threatened communities, working with other security agencies to prevent any possible attack.

A security source said the situation has placed all relevant agencies on alert, with residents advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements immediately.

The development comes shortly after a similar threat letter was reportedly delivered to Dunshigogo community in Kaiama Local Government Area following the Woro massacre.

Reports on the Woro attack stated that terrorists invaded the community in a coordinated assault on February 3, 2026, killing men, women and children. Victims reportedly included two wives of the Emir, several of his children, religious leaders, school officials and students returning home.

The Emir, Alhaji Saliu Bio Umar, was said to have escaped by fleeing during the attack.

The suspected attackers were believed to be part of a Boko Haram faction led by Sadiku, allegedly connected to wider Sahel-based terror networks, raising fears that insurgency is expanding into Kwara State.

As of the time of this report, Kwara State authorities and security agencies had not issued an official public statement specifically addressing the alleged threat letter.

Meanwhile, residents of Ira, Inaja and Aho remain anxious, fearing that the violence seen in Woro could be repeated in their communities.
