Suspected bandits have abducted 10 people, including seven members of the same family, during a late-night attack in Kaduna State.
The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in Unguwar Sabon-Titi, along the Katari–Hayin Dam area of Kachia Local Government Area.
According to residents, the attackers, who were heavily armed, invaded a residential compound and abducted seven members of one family before moving to a nearby house where three additional victims were taken.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants initially carried out the operation quietly without firing shots, but began shooting into the air after leaving the community with the victims.
A resident explained that the gunmen surrounded a neighbour’s house before entering and taking away family members, then proceeded to another home to abduct more people.
The victims from the same family were identified as Jummai Amos, Barnabas Amos, Iko Amos, Baby Amos, Eunice Amos, Eshiwan Amos, and Godwin Amos. The other abducted individuals were Bagudu Damisa, Evelyn Damisa, and Alfred Iriyo.
Sources within the community suggested that the attackers may have avoided gunfire at the early stage of the operation due to the proximity of a police officer’s residence, possibly to avoid attracting attention.
A local leader confirmed the incident, noting that attempts to contact security agencies at the time were unsuccessful.
By Friday morning, residents had gathered at the affected homes to sympathise with the families of those abducted.
Security operatives have reportedly begun search operations in nearby forests in an effort to locate and rescue the victims.
As of the time of reporting, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
