Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has rejected claims linking him to the 2018 Offa robbery, describing the allegations as unfounded and politically driven.

In a statement, Saraki said he was forced to respond following renewed attempts to associate him with the crime, which he attributed to actions by the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Drivetvnews gathered that He firmly denied any involvement, stating that he had no direct or indirect connection to armed robbery or any criminal activity.

Saraki alleged that the case was originally politicised during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari as part of efforts to weaken his political standing ahead of the 2019 elections.

According to him, official investigations at the time did not establish any link between him and the incident. He referenced legal opinions issued in 2018 by the Director of Public Prosecution under the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which reportedly found no evidence connecting him to the crime.

He added that the same position was maintained in subsequent reviews, with authorities unable to establish a case against him. Based on those findings, other suspects were prosecuted, convicted, and their convictions upheld on appeal, with the matter currently before the Supreme Court.

Saraki accused the state governor of attempting to revive the issue following his recent comments on insecurity in Kwara State, describing the move as an abuse of legal process intended to tarnish his reputation.

He also claimed that there were efforts to encourage victims’ families to initiate legal action against him, but said such attempts did not succeed.

Criticising the development, Saraki argued that such accusations undermine the credibility of political leadership in the state, adding that his legal team would challenge any fresh action in court.
