Tension has escalated in Kogi State following the abduction of several clerics from the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Christ Apostolic Church, alongside members of their families, in Odo-Eri community, Yagba West Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred late Wednesday night, has left residents and church members deeply concerned about the safety of the victims.

According to sources, a group of heavily armed gunmen, estimated to be about 30, invaded the community around 10 p.m., riding on motorcycles and firing shots to create panic before carrying out the abduction.

The attackers reportedly took away multiple victims, including pastors, their wives, children, and other residents. Although the exact number remains unclear, local sources suggest that at least 20 people were kidnapped during the raid.

After the operation, the assailants were said to have escaped through Abewo Road, heading in the direction of Kwara State.

Security agencies have since launched efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible. The state Police Public Relations Officer had earlier confirmed the incident, noting that operatives had been deployed to the area.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kogi State, Apostle Olaniyan Adebayo, revealed that the Department of State Services had issued an intelligence alert prior to the attack. This prompted churches in vulnerable areas to take precautionary steps.

He explained that notifications were sent to church coordinators across affected locations to raise awareness and improve readiness.

Despite the growing concern, the leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has yet to make an official statement regarding the incident. A senior church official indicated that the matter had been escalated internally.

As rescue efforts continue, residents remain anxious, hoping for the safe return of those abducted while security forces work to contain the situation.
