A tragic incident reportedly occurred in Ikhehe community where a 30-year-old man, identified as Pere Odese, allegedly killed his father during an argument over food.
According to reports, the deceased, Friday Odese, was a farmer who had allegedly told his son there was no food available in the house because insecurity and armed attacks around the area had prevented him from accessing his farm to harvest cassava.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into violence, during which the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a cutlass, leading to his death.
Sources in the community also said a neighbour who tried to intervene sustained machete injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Residents and youths in the community were said to have pursued the suspect while he attempted to flee and later beat him to death, resulting in two deaths from the incident.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed awareness of the incident but stated that the matter had not yet been formally reported to the police at the time of the report.
The incident has also drawn attention to the growing insecurity affecting farming communities in parts of Edo State, where residents say fear of armed attacks has disrupted farming and food access.
