Suspected armed attackers have killed two farmers and injured another during separate attacks on Takkas community in Fier Ward, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the assailants reportedly laid ambushes around the community and attacked the victims while they were working on their farms on Sunday and Monday, worsening fears among locals during the farming season.
Confirming the incident, the member representing Pankshin North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel, disclosed that one farmer was killed on Sunday while another lost his life on Monday evening.
According to the lawmaker, one of the bodies was taken to the General Hospital, Pankshin, while the second was deposited at a Christian hospital in the area.
Gabriel condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable, and warned that the attacks have left many residents afraid to return to their farms.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Takkas Community, praying for the repose of the victims’ souls and comfort for those affected.
The lawmaker also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible, pledging to work with relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and prevent further attacks.
He further appealed to residents to remain calm, obey the law, and support security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
