Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a suspected drug warehouse in Benin City, Edo State, leading to the arrest of a husband and wife allegedly linked to the storage and distribution of illicit drugs.

Drivetvnews gathered that the Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed that the operation followed credible intelligence about suspected drug trafficking activities at a residential building along Sapele Road.

The suspects, identified as Christian Chukwuka, 32, and his wife, Nwanneka Christian, 33, both from Ndokwa in Delta State, were apprehended during the raid.

According to the agency, operatives recovered 22 bags of skunk cannabis weighing 219.5 kilograms and 192.67 kilograms of compressed Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis. In total, 412.17 kilograms of suspected illicit drugs were seized.

Ofoyeju described the operation as a significant breakthrough in the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse across Edo State.

He assured that investigations would continue to uncover other members of the network and ensure that those involved face prosecution.

Speaking after his arrest, Chukwuka attributed his alleged involvement in drug trafficking to unemployment and financial hardship.

He said he was a secondary school graduate and truck driver whose inability to secure stable work pushed him into the illegal trade after being introduced to it by a friend.

According to him, the responsibility of caring for his twin children influenced his decision, adding that he would not return to drug trafficking if given another opportunity.

The NDLEA said the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.

The agency also noted that the seizure ranks among its largest drug interceptions in Edo State this year, reaffirming its determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of illicit narcotics.
