The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, claiming that only “mad men” would vote for him in the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi made the remark on Thursday during the ADC stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
He urged residents of Edo State to reject Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that supporting the president in the next election would be the wrong decision.
“If you’re going about ‘vote Tinubu, vote Tinubu,’ only a thief will vote for Tinubu. In fact, I read in one of these social media that if it is in 2027 that we will know how many mad men we have in Nigeria because it’s only a mad man that can vote for Tinubu,” Amaechi said.
He further challenged Edo residents to ensure that Tinubu does not win the state in 2027.
“If Edo people vote for Tinubu, that means Edo people are mad. If you’re not, then Tinubu should not win here,” he added.
Amaechi’s remarks form part of the political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures campaign against Tinubu’s return to office.
