Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has urged senior police officers to maintain professionalism and discipline as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Jibrin gave the directive during a strategic security meeting with the command’s management team, tactical commanders and Divisional Police Officers at the Police Headquarters in Damaturu.
According to a statement by the command, the meeting was held to implement decisions reached during the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) 2026, which recently took place in Imo State.
The commissioner commended officers for their professional conduct during the last local government elections in Yobe State and urged them to maintain the same level of discipline as preparations for the 2027 elections begin.
He reminded officers that all election-related responsibilities must be carried out in line with the Electoral Act and other existing laws guiding police operations.
Jibrin also expressed concern over recurring farmer-herder clashes in some parts of the state, particularly during the ongoing harvest season.
He directed DPOs to adopt proactive, intelligence-led policing and strengthen engagement with communities to prevent disputes from escalating.
The commissioner further cautioned officers against bias and the excessive use of force while handling communal conflicts.
He stressed the importance of commanders communicating the new operational directives to officers under their supervision to ensure effective implementation.
The statement added that the meeting ended with an interactive session where officers raised challenges encountered in the field and received operational guidance aimed at improving security service delivery across Yobe State.
