The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his alleged silence on controversial comments attributed to Islamic cleric, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.
Drivetvnews gathered that Ayodele argued that Jingir should be arrested and prosecuted over remarks he allegedly made concerning the proposed Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Jingir reportedly said that Nigerians who could not accept a Muslim-Muslim ticket should leave the country, while describing Christians as “infidels.”
Reacting in a video shared on social media, Ayodele warned that such comments could threaten religious harmony and place Christians at greater risk if they are not addressed by the authorities.
“If the government does not caution this, then Christianity is in trouble in Nigeria. This senseless old fool, Islamic cleric Jingir, should be in jail by now,” Ayodele said.
He further alleged that the government would have responded more swiftly if similar remarks had come from a Christian religious leader.
“If a Christian had made such a statement, they would have picked him up immediately,” he added.
The cleric called on the Tinubu administration to caution Jingir and other religious leaders against making statements capable of inflaming religious tensions.
Ayodele warned that failure to address inflammatory rhetoric could further damage peaceful coexistence and deepen existing religious divisions in the country.
