Vice President Kashim Shettima traveled to Kwara State on Saturday to assess the aftermath of a violent attack in Woro village, Kaiama Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of 75 residents.

Shettima’s visit, directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed to offer federal condolences and evaluate the situation firsthand, according to his media aide, Stany Nkwocha.

“The President has instructed the Vice President to visit the affected area, convey sympathies to the grieving families, and assess the situation on the ground,” Nkwocha stated.

On arrival, Shettima was welcomed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other state officials. The governor had earlier described the victims as local Muslims who were targeted after refusing to yield to extremist ideologies, with initial reports suggesting more than 100 fatalities.

The attack reportedly occurred on Tuesday night following the community’s rejection of militants’ attempts to impose their beliefs.

Nkwocha added that the Vice President delivered President Tinubu’s assurance that the federal government would pursue justice for the victims. “The President has emphasized that those responsible will be identified, apprehended, and held accountable,” he said.

President Tinubu condemned the attacks on Woro and Nuku communities as “cowardly and brutal,” confirming that military operations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. He also announced the deployment of an Army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield to protect vulnerable communities and check further acts of violence.

Additionally, the President called for stronger coordination between federal and state agencies to provide relief for victims and ensure that justice is served.
