President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday asked Nigerians to forgive him for any wrongdoing as Muslims across the country commenced the Ramadan fast.
The President made the appeal during a Ramadan Tafsir held at the State House Mosque in Abuja. He encouraged citizens to use the holy month as a period for reflection, unity and spiritual renewal.
According to Tinubu, Ramadan teaches compassion, love, faith and forgiveness. He urged Nigerians to embrace these values and extend goodwill to one another.
“As we begin this Ramadan, let us hold firmly to its lessons — doing good, sharing love and strengthening our faith. If in any way I have erred, I ask Nigerians to forgive me,” he said.
Tinubu noted that the fasting period should inspire acts of kindness and deepen national cohesion. He also called on people of all faiths to pray for the country and support efforts to address terrorism, banditry and other security concerns.
In his remarks, the Chief Imam of the State House Mosque, Abdulwahid Suleiman, expressed gratitude to God for allowing Muslims to witness another Ramadan.
He offered prayers for the President, asking for wisdom, strength and good health for Tinubu and his administration. He also prayed for peace, stability and prosperity across the nation.
