A fire outbreak on Friday destroyed sections of the palace of the Emir of Jama’a in Kafanchan, the administrative headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area in Kaduna State.

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, the fire affected apartments located in the wing occupied by the Emir’s mother.

Sources said the incident occurred around the time the family was preparing for the Magrib (early evening) prayers, causing panic within the palace and nearby neighbourhood.

When reporters visited the scene later that night, parts of the building were still smouldering. Several sections of the affected wing were badly damaged, with household belongings completely burnt.

Eyewitnesses stated that officials of the Kaduna State Fire Service responded to a distress call. However, efforts to contain the blaze were initially hindered after the fire truck’s pumping machine reportedly failed to function upon arrival.

The delay, according to residents, allowed the fire to spread and destroy four flats before additional assistance arrived. Community members and volunteers joined in efforts to salvage property and prevent further damage.

As of the time of reporting, no injuries or fatalities had been recorded, though the incident caused considerable property loss.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire or release an official statement detailing the extent of the damage.

Residents of Kafanchan described the incident as unfortunate and called for improved emergency response systems to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
