A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) sustained serious injuries after being run over by an operational van during a “show of force” exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Saturday morning.
SaharaReporters learned that the incident occurred while officers were performing a convoy manoeuvre as part of the exercise. According to eyewitnesses, the officer either fell from a moving vehicle or was struck during a sharp turn, causing her to become trapped under one of the van’s tyres.
Video footage obtained by SaharaReporters shows two NSCDC vehicles performing the demonstration. In the recording, a black van with red wheels makes a sharp turn at high speed, leading to visible confusion in the convoy. The officer was seen lying under the tyre as colleagues and bystanders rushed to lift the vehicle in an effort to free her.
A source familiar with the event described the scene as chaotic, with personnel scrambling to provide immediate assistance. The officer was quickly transported to a hospital in an ambulance for urgent medical attention.
No official statement has yet been issued by the NSCDC or the FCT Police Command regarding the circumstances of the accident.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the exercise, intended to display operational readiness, turned tragic due to the apparent loss of vehicle control during the demonstration.
