The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into a deadly confrontation involving Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) personnel and commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, in Abuja.
Drivetvnews gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday night in the Life Camp area, reportedly causing tension as videos circulated online alleging that a motorcyclist was fatally shot during the confrontation.
The clash reportedly started when VIO personnel attached to a task force established by the Federal Capital Territory Administration were enforcing the restriction on motorcycles operating on major roads in the city.
The officials were said to have engaged a commercial motorcyclist in an argument, which later escalated into a confrontation.
However, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, had directed a comprehensive investigation to establish what happened.
According to the police, normalcy has been restored in the area, while residents have been urged to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
The Command said it would provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
