The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of four passengers who were abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Friday.
According to him, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when armed men emerged from a nearby bush and blocked the road. The attackers intercepted a commercial bus travelling from Igbeti to Kishi and forcefully took four passengers into the bush.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate rescue operation. Divisional Police Officers in Igbeti and Kishi, along with tactical teams, were directed to mobilise resources to ensure the victims were rescued safely.
Security operatives, including police personnel, members of the Amotekun Corps and Operation Burst, launched a coordinated search in the surrounding forests.
After several hours of intensive bush combing, the pressure mounted by the security teams forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee. The four passengers were rescued unharmed and later reunited with their families.
The police spokesperson added that security operatives have continued searching the area to track down and arrest the suspects responsible for the attack.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could help security agencies apprehend the fleeing criminals.
