Yoruba self-determination advocate Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed ambassadors to work closely with Bola Tinubu in improving the country’s reputation and diplomatic standing across the world.
In a statement, Igboho encouraged the ambassadors—both career diplomats and political appointees—to make use of their professional experience and leadership skills to perform effectively in their new roles abroad. According to him, their contributions will be important in shaping how Nigeria is viewed internationally.
He also commended President Tinubu for the appointments and urged citizens to continue portraying Nigeria in a positive light, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, even as the country navigates economic and social challenges.
Recently, the presidency announced the appointment of 65 ambassadors who will represent Nigeria in various countries. The announcement was made through the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Among those appointed are former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, who was posted to Germany; Isaac Adewole to Canada; Reno Omokri to Mexico; retired Lieutenant-General Abdulrahman Dambazau to China; and Kayode Are to the United States.
Others include former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodeji Oke, assigned to France, and Chioma Ohakim, who will serve in Poland.
Igboho particularly praised the appointment of Fani-Kayode, describing it as a positive development. He also acknowledged the roles played by the traditional ruler Francis Olushola Alao and Tinubu’s legal adviser Oluwole Afolabi in supporting the nomination.
According to Igboho, the selection of qualified Nigerians for diplomatic roles reflects an effort to strengthen the country’s international representation. He expressed optimism that the ambassadors would work diligently with the President to advance Nigeria’s interests and improve its global perception.
