President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, declaring that he is healthy, strong and prepared to resume his official duties.
Drivetvnews gathered that Tinubu arrived in Lagos from Paris on Tuesday evening after completing the final part of what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Speaking to journalists upon his arrival, the President dismissed concerns surrounding his health, saying he remained fit to continue carrying out his responsibilities.
Tinubu said political rumours were expected but insisted that he was in good health and ready to work.
The President left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris. His stay abroad was later extended by a few days before his return on Tuesday.
His extended absence from the country generated political and public discussions, with opposition figures questioning the duration of the trip and his decision not to personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Presidency maintained throughout the period that Tinubu remained in contact with government officials in Nigeria and continued to oversee the affairs of the country while abroad.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented him at several official engagements, including the United Nations General Assembly.
During his stay in France, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. The Presidency also said he held discussions with investors concerning major projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State.
Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1.
He is scheduled to participate in official engagements related to the anniversary before returning to Abuja.
