The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially declared Morocco as winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a dramatic decision by its Appeal Board.
The ruling overturned the initial outcome of the final match against Senegal, awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory after Senegal’s team reportedly abandoned the game during play.
The incident occurred in Rabat, where Senegal’s national team, known as the Lions of Teranga, walked off the pitch in protest under controversial circumstances.
In its official statement, CAF explained that the decision was made in line with its tournament regulations. The Appeal Board upheld a protest filed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), ruling that Senegal’s actions violated the competition rules.
As a result, the earlier decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Board was set aside, and Senegal was deemed to have forfeited the final. The match was therefore recorded as a 3–0 win in favour of Morocco.
CAF further stated that Senegal’s conduct fell within the provisions of its regulatory framework governing match forfeiture, leading to the confirmation of Morocco as champions of the tournament.
With this ruling, Morocco has been officially crowned winner of the 2025 AFCON, bringing a controversial end to the competition.
