The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new credit initiative designed to make domestic air travel more affordable for citizens.
The programme, known as “Fly Now, Pay Later,” was announced by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), which explained that it allows eligible passengers to book local flights and spread payments over a period of time.
According to the agency, the scheme aims to remove the financial burden of paying the full ticket cost upfront—an issue that often prevents many Nigerians from travelling when necessary.
CREDICORP stated that the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank to expand access to structured and responsible consumer credit.
Interested applicants can access the service by booking flights through the designated platform, with repayment arranged in instalments.
The corporation noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve financial inclusion and make essential services more accessible through innovative financing solutions.
The launch comes at a time when domestic flight fares in Nigeria have risen significantly, making air travel increasingly difficult for many people. During the 2025 festive season, ticket prices on some routes surged sharply, with one-way fares exceeding ₦300,000.
Airlines have linked the increase in costs to factors such as the high price of aviation fuel, foreign exchange challenges, and other operational expenses.
With this new scheme, the government hopes to ease travel constraints and enable more Nigerians to move across the country without immediate financial strain.
