Nollywood actress and podcast host Biola Adebayo has come under heavy criticism online after featuring convicted actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha, on her show Talk To B.
The interview quickly went viral, triggering widespread backlash from Nigerians who accused the actress of offering a platform to someone convicted of offences involving a minor. Many critics argued that the appearance allowed the actor to attempt to reshape public perception of the case.
During the conversation, Baba Ijesha insisted that the incident leading to his conviction was a setup, maintaining that he had been misunderstood. He also claimed that aspects of the situation were connected to preparation for a movie role—remarks that further fueled outrage across social media.
The actor also revisited his past relationship with fellow actress Iyabo Ojo, stating that she had once entrusted her children to his care. Ojo has since rejected this claim and warned him against involving her children in his narrative, threatening legal action if he continues.
The interview sparked intense reactions, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where many users condemned both the actor and the host. Several critics argued that individuals convicted of such offences should not be given media exposure, while others accused Adebayo of prioritizing views over sensitivity.
Some commenters described the interview as inappropriate and harmful, stressing that serious issues should not be turned into content for engagement. Others expressed concern that such platforms could distort public understanding of accountability and justice.
However, a minority of voices defended the interview, arguing that it provided an opportunity for the actor to share his side of the story. They emphasized the importance of hearing all perspectives, even in controversial cases.
Baba Ijesha was convicted by a Lagos court in 2022 over offences involving a minor and was sentenced to prison. Despite later legal developments, authorities clarified that his conviction was not overturned.
As the controversy continues to generate debate online, Biola Adebayo has yet to issue an official response to the criticism surrounding the interview.
